A Compassionate Psychiatric Practice for All in Hawaii

Fields Psychiatric Consultants was founded in 2022 by Dave Fields, a psychiatric nurse practitioner who had spent years watching good clinics make decisions for the wrong reasons — patients turned away over their coverage, schedules packed past the point where anyone could do careful work. He started FPC to build something different.

Today FPC supports a network of independent psychiatric and behavioral health providers across Hawaiʻi. Each provider runs their own practice: they decide which patients to take, set their own rates and policies, and direct their own clinical care. What FPC carries is everything behind that — insurance contracting and credentialing, benefits verification, claims, records technology, and scheduling — the administrative weight that keeps clinicians from the work they trained for.

That structure exists for a reason. Many practices contract selectively with insurers, keeping the plans that reimburse well and declining the rest. We went the other way, holding contracts with every insurance company we can so that providers in the network can see patients who would otherwise struggle to find anyone taking their coverage. Credentialing with that many payers is slow and expensive for a solo practice to carry alone. Holding it centrally means a provider can say yes to a patient instead of first checking whether the plan is worth the paperwork.

What that looks like from your side is simple. A provider accepts you — not an intake queue. That clinician is your treating provider of record, their name is on your chart, and your relationship is with them. If they ever leave the network, you can choose to continue with them, and we'll help you make that transition rather than stand in the way of it.

Providers see patients in person on Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, and Maui, and by telehealth anywhere in the state, because no one on a neighbor island should have to fly to Honolulu for a medication check.

Mental health care works when someone knows you — your history, what you've already tried, what a hard week looks like for you. That takes continuity, and continuity takes time. The providers here are ready to listen, to take your story seriously, and to stay with you through it.
