About Dave Fields

Dave Fields grew up in Mililani and graduated from Mililani High School, which is where the through-line of his work starts — he has spent his career caring for the people he grew up among. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, specialized in psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, and came home. He is board-certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and has practiced in both inpatient and outpatient settings, across a wide range of psychiatric conditions in adolescents and adults.He founded Fields Psychiatric Consultants in 2022, after watching too many clinics decide who to treat based on which plan paid best. The practice was built on the opposite premise: contract broadly, including with the plans other groups turn down, so that coverage isn't what determines whether someone gets seen. Four years on, FPC supports providers across Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, and Maui.Much of Dave's own clinical work is with people experiencing homelessness and living with serious mental illness — patients who are often the last to be offered care and the first to lose it. He serves on the board of Mental Health Kokua and provides medico-legal and forensic psychiatric evaluations. He is currently pursuing a Juris Doctor at the University of Hawaiʻi's William S. Richardson School of Law, where his interest sits where psychiatry and the law meet, and in the systems that decide whether someone in crisis ends up in treatment or in a courtroom.Outside of work, Dave watches more anime than he'll admit to, travels when he can, and is devoted to his dog, Gary.
