Dr. Kamaile Long (Maggie Kamaile Long) is a Native Hawaiian board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing culturally grounded mental healthcare across Hawaiʻi. Raised in Hauʻula, Oʻahu, her work is rooted in Native Hawaiian values, community connection, and a belief that healing is grounded in relationship and connection. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the Medical University of South Carolina and brings 20 years of healthcare experience across Hawaiʻi and the continental United States in emergency, cardiovascular, and outpatient mental health settings. Dr. Long spent much of her career in The Queen’s Medical Center Emergency Department, where she witnessed how physical and mental health influence one another—an experience that shaped her path toward psychiatry. She has cared for keiki, adults, and ʻohana across a wide range of psychiatric and medical needs, including trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders, grief, life transitions, and serious and chronic medical conditions, in collaboration with medical teams. Her care philosophy is grounded in whole-person, collaborative care, viewing health as a dynamic balance of physical, emotional, mental, and environmental factors. She values transparency and shared decision-making, and works in partnership with patients to develop individualized, culturally responsive treatment plans. Dr. Long provides psychiatric care across the lifespan and approaches care without reducing individuals to diagnoses, instead meeting each person with openness, curiosity, and respect for their lived experience. She is passionate about expanding access to mental health care for underserved and rural communities across Hawaiʻi. Outside of her clinical work, she finds grounding in nature, world music, global travel, puzzles, playing West African djembe, and time with her ʻohana.
